On the 28th May afternoon, Dr. Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of Hong Kong Sunwah Group and Honorary Director of the Board of Shanghai University, together with Ms. Janice Choi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, Director of Hong Kong Art Centre and Chairperson of Hong Kong Art School, visited the Shanghai University (Yanchang Campus) for exchange activities. They were warmly received by Ding Youdong, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University, Ni Yu, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean, and other college leaders. The two sides held in-depth discussions covering film and television art, cultural exchange, brand development and other topics.

During the forum, Secretary Ding Youdong recounted the development journey of the Shanghai Film Academy, and presented its achievements in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, and the integration of art and technology.

Dr. Jonathan Choi Koon-shum recalled on the long-standing profound ties between himself and Shanghai University. He voiced his expectation to launch all-round cooperation with the university in film art, and advance coordinated artistic and cultural development across the Jing-Jin-Ji, the Bohai Economic Rim (BER), the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Drawing on Hong Kong’s unique strengths, the partnership will also facilitate cultural exchanges under The Belt and Road Initiative. Drawing on her professional expertise in intellectual property rights and rich experience in the arts sector, Ms. Janice Choi expressed her willingness to deepen cooperation with Shanghai University and other mainland higher education institutions.

Later that day, the delegation toured multiple professional laboratories at the Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Film Special Effects, including the Shanghai Film Academy- Baikang Joint Medical Imaging Laboratory, Motion Picture Enhancement Laboratory and the Film Restoration Studio, etc. They gained detailed insights into the academy’s innovations and practical achievements in film and television technology. Dr. Choi and his entourage also visited the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, where they viewed preparations for the 2025 Graduation Exhibition One Kilometer in the Cloud, and were warmly received by Professor Jin Jiangbo, Dean of the Fine Arts College.
